stopIt is with regret and disappointment that yet again we have to report that the plans drawn up by the council and passed have again to be amended.  This is totally out with our control and there is a meeting with West Dunbartonshire Council officials on Fri 20th November to allow for full details to be explained to us.

With incurring this delay it is unlikely that any new clubhouse would be ready for season 2010 opening day but hopefully the meeting next week will provide more answers than questions.

Going at this rate we will need to write to jim'll fix itto assist in getting the clubhouse rebuilt.

Watch this space for more details in the coming weeks.

sadWell Sunday 4th October was officially the last day of the 2009 bowling season at the Argyle.  Its amazing how 6 months can just speed past you.  So the competitions are all complete, the seasons winners and runner-ups will be receiving their respective trophies at the end-of-season presentation dance at the end of October and the committee will be preparing the 1/2 yearly meeting as well.

Unfortunately the website wasn’t updated as often as we’d have liked as info was not as forthcoming of competition winners etc. as we’d have hoped but that’s life.

From a members point of view I can say it has been a most enjoyable season and thanks to President George Whyte, the committee and army of non-committee helpers who made sure everything ran as smoothly as possible this year.  Sure we had no official clubhouse due to the fire at the end of season 2008 – but as ever – the members made do with the limited facilities we had available and the friendship and hospitality was just as strong as ever.  Something the club has a great reputation for.  We also managed to complete all of our internal competitions, association commitments and friendly games as well.

We lost some members and good friends through the season as well and thanks to those members who took the time and effort to turn up to the funerals to pay their respects.

Thanks must also go to William Murray who looked after the green again this year for us.  He worked week in – week out to ensure that the green was the best it could be given the various bouts of inclement weather we had.  As ever you cant please everyone but I’m glad you stuck to your task throughout the season and the green certainly benefited from the work undertaken.   Yet again the green played very well and was commented on several times by visiting teams as well and hopefully the same continues next year.

Hopefully season 2010 will be slightly better for us all.  All being well we should have our new clubhouse  in place for the start of the season (fingers crossed) and we will be able to have our own “homecoming” ceremony in opening day.

So overall a successful season for some – and better luck next time for others.  Season 2010 will be even more enjoyable I’m sure.

To every member – please make sure you pop down to the club to keep up-to-date during the close season.  There will hopefully be indoor bowls and carpet bowling so check to see which days these are on.

Welcome…

Argyle Bowling Club Crest

Argyle Bowling Club Crest

A very warm welcome to the Argyle Bowling Clubs website for season 2009.  We are a small bowling club based in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire in Scotland a stones throw from the beautiful Loch Lomond.  Our aim is to promote the sport of lawn bowls and the friendship that that entails.  We have an active membership and participate in both local and national competitions run by the various associations.

On these pages you will find out all you need to know about the club, its membership and competitions we run. The site will be updated on a regular basis with competition results through out the season so check back soon to see who’s won what…

In bowling club terms we are still young as we were founded in 1963 but from small beginnings the club has grown from strength to strength and now boasts a full playing membership of 120 and  a health waiting list with a ladies section also consisting of 45 members as well.

If you are ever in the area – please pop in and say hello.
